2026 Awardees

ASM’s 2026 Class of Fellows

In 1969, ASM established the Fellow of the Society honor to provide recognition to members for their distinguished contributions to materials science and engineering and to develop a broadly based forum of technical and professional leaders to serve as advisors to the society.  ASM will recognize the 2026 Class of Fellows at the ASM Awards Dinner held during IMAT’26, on Tuesday, September 29th in Quebec City, Canada.  Tickets can be purchased with IMAT registration.

The following members are recognized by their colleagues for 2026.  Additional Fellows may be elected to this distinguished body in subsequent years.  The solicited guidance, which the Fellows will provide, will enhance the capability of ASM as a technical community of materials science and engineering in the years ahead.

2026 ASM Award Program Recipients

The ASM International Board of Trustees has named the award program recipients for 2026. The awards program recognizes the achievements of members of the materials science and engineering community.

Willard Gibbs Phase Equilibria Award

The award was established in 2007 to recognize outstanding contributions to the field of Phase Equilibria. The award honors J. Willard Gibbs, one of America’s greatest theoretical scientists. In addition to many other contributions, Gibbs laid the thermodynamic foundations of phase equilibria theory with his brilliant essay “On the Equilibrium of Heterogeneous Substances” published in 1876 and 1878 in the Transactions of the Connecticut Academy.

The Journal of Thermal Spray Technology (JTST) publishes contributions on all fundamental and practical aspects of thermal spray science, including processes, feedstock manufacture, testing, and characterization. A leading forum on thermal spray technology, JTST’s mission is to synergize the rapidly advancing thermal spray industry and related industries.

The Thermal Spray Technology: Accepted Practices eBook is a compendium of documents created by the ASM Thermal Spray Society to describe and explain accepted practices for testing and analysis of thermal spray coatings, with particular emphasis on sample preparation for metallographic examination. The Accepted Practice documentation is intended to provide practical guidance and to augment the information contained in ASTM and other balloted standards. The book also includes an overview of thermal spray processes and applications.

 

TSS Member receive online access to ASM Handbook, Volume 5A: Thermal Spray Technology. This addition to the ASM Handbook series is co-published by the Thermal Spray Society and ASM International. Volume 5A is a replacement for the Handbook of Thermal Spray Technology, edited by J.R. Davis (ASM, 2004). The volume provides an introduction to modern thermal spray processes including plasma spray, high velocity oxy-fuel, and detonation gun deposition; and a description of coating properties, their wear, corrosion, and thermal barrier characteristics. Principles, types of coatings, applications, performance, and testing/analysis also are covered. The Handbook serves as an excellent introduction and guidebook for those new to thermal spray.
